Beginner Course: Survival Pack Description

This beginner course is designed for learners who want to function in real-life Japanese settings. Through structured modules and practical tasks, students progress from basic interaction to more fluid communication, tackling daily situations and social encounters in Japan. Grammar is introduced naturally through communication, not memorization.

Tools

BES uses a variety of digital tools to support self-directed study and language immersion. Here are some key ones you’ll likely need:

Discord – Our main platform for text/voice.
IME Keyboard – For Japanese character input (Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji).
Dictionaries (e.g., Jsho, Takoboto, Japanese (iOS)) – For definitions, example sentences, kanji breakdowns.
Anki – Spaced repetition flashcards to memorize vocab/kanji.
ChatGPT / DeepL / ElevenLabs – Use responsibly for clarifications, translations, or pronunciation checks, but don’t let AI do your tasks.
Browser Extensions (e.g., Rikaikun, Safarikai) – Hover to get instant translations or readings on browser.
